EurActiv Romania has launched the project entitled ”We develop! – Romanian initiative on International Development Cooperation” - an inititaive in the field of international development

Context

The field of international development is scarcely known in Romania. Although there have been several important associated public events, such as the 2009 Millennium Goals conference, held in Bucharest by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Haakon of Norway (UNDP Goodwill Ambassador), across the country, the main priorities of this field continue to remain outside the immediate scope of the public agenda.

In this context, considering EU`s related efforts and Romania`s role as a donor of official development assistance, there is an urgency to reach both the general public and specialized stakeholders, through better targeted information and awareness campaigns.

Objectives

The project`s main objectives are to:

• Raise awareness of international development, including global, European and national priorities, achievements and actions, among Romanian citizens, public stakeholders and CSOs

• Promote field-related public, private, academic and civic work through a tailored media coverage of the 2015 Romanian Development Camp.

Activities

• One 4 months-long online public campaign consisting of a specialized project online section on EurActiv.ro and its promotion through HotNews.ro and social media. The campaign will comprise 5 interviews with EU experts and Romanian diplomats on the relevance of international development cooperation, 3 online debates with international experts, 2 reports (narrative and info-graphic) on EU`s and Romania`s strategy and actions, and 4 monthly (16 in total) editorial pieces promoting field-related themes and priorities from global, European and national perspectives.

• Specialized media coverage for the 2015 Romanian Development Camp. The event will take place in July 2015, will be organized by the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in partnership with FOND (The Federation of NGOs For Development).

Partners

The project will be implemented in partnership with the Romanian Center for European Policies (CRPE) and HotNews.ro.
